Essy is the Director of Library Services for our library system. When she was told that the city was closing the library due to COVID-19, she fought to be able to still offer library services to the community. Thanks to her efforts, patrons were able to access books and movies via Curbside Pickup. In the first month 2,647 patrons were served with 11,816 items picked up. Having this service helped make sheltering in place demonstrably better for our community, especially our low income population and families with small children. It also kept over 50 library employees working safely. Essy went to bat for our community and that makes her an Everyday Hero.

Matthew is a blessing to anyone he comes into contact with. Not only did he put himself through nursing school, he took the time to help other students who were struggling. He now works in the ICU. He is extremely helpful and kind and always gives his best at whatever his task is. I have knows him for 4 years and for 4 years I have watched him give and give and NEVER told someone "you owe me one". If anyone deserves special treatment, it's him.

Amanda is an upper grade elementary teacher at a private school in Odessa, Tx. The school has a recycling program. One of our students took on the job to pick up recyclables in their neighborhood; however, during the Covid crisis, our student had to stop the program. Amanda took it upon herself to maintain the program each week because she realizes the impact it has on the community. The neighborhood is thankful for her volunteer work & I am thankful for someone that cares about our community & takes the time to pick up recyclables from house to house and takes them to our city recycling center. We are grateful for her heroic efforts and her stewardship. She is a great role model to her students & the world!

I nominate Linda as a local hero for Odessa. She is the Principal and Primary teacher for a private school. During the COVID-19 pandemic there has been much uncertainty in education. Linda works everyday to create consistency in her student's lives. She has created times during the week for her students to join her online to work on arts & crafts, to read stories, exercise, garden, and recycle. As the pandemic continues, Linda picks up recyclables from her neighbors and encourages her students to find ways to reuse and recycle plastics.

As an army veteran and Chef, Kemar has worked his whole life serving others. Kemar worked tirelessly to make his dream of owning his own restaurant come true and in January of this year, it opened! It was a huge success. Then the virus locked things down and his business has taken a huge hit. But through it all, Kemar has gone in every day, working himself to keep the restaurant open and serve those around him. To his friends, family, and community he's a hero!

Riddhi is a frontline dentist who has worked throughout the Covid crisis with a skeleton crew. She and her trimmed down team work directly with aerosols daily, there is nothing more scary! Her dedication and commitment to serving patients is so so admirable. She's always there for them, staying late and working through lunches. The thing that really makes me say "thank you" is that she has never ONCE focused on herself or said she is afraid. Thank you for everything you do :-)

Darin is the pastor at our church. Pastor Darin, his wife Kim, along with his daughters have bent over backwards to help everyone in the church in any way needed. They organized a "free-give away" of toilet paper and other hard to get items for anyone who wanted it whether in our church or not. They are always inspiring hope in the community and beyond. They are truly heroes not only during these difficult times but ALL the time.
