Mike has been leading a local effort to make and provide face shields for healthcare workers at local nursing homes, hospitals, and others, and has delivered hundreds in-state and across the country. It's all-volunteer and he'll soon be holding an online auction of decorated one-of-a-kind face shields featuring artwork from artists and cartoonists dedicating their talent to the effort. Mike started with a Facebook post. Things took off from there. He's giving back in a big way during this unprecedented time. He gives most of his free time to the effort when not working (he's fortunate to be able to work from home right now) and rounds up volunteers left and right. No one is paid, and donations are welcome. Heroic in the best local kind of way. Great civic spirit.

My hero works in the mental health field, her clients used to come to her office and have group meetings and get get advice and guidance, bit now they have to call in for that same assistance. Since the shelter in place, she has had many clients relapse and some even talking about suicide. She has given so much to them and helped many of the find some type of normalcy in their lives. When she gets off work she goes picks up her 3 amazing children and spends her evening, feeding, bathing and doing homework with them. She is mentally drained at the end of each day, but she gets up the next day with a smile on her face and ready to help her clients again. She is a true hero to not only her clients, but her amazing children .

She works in Cutting edge cancer research and therapies for patients. She has been clocking in at a hospital everyday, on the front line during this pandemic. She gives selflessly and tries to assist her patients to her fullest ability, even when their fates are sealed. Being a compassionate shoulder and support to her patients is more than a paycheck, it’s her giving and striving to help as much as she can.

Karla is an Administrator and a team leader at a rehab center. She has been at this job for nearly 15 years and her dedication only blossoms each year. The welfare of the residents and the staff is her main focus. She often works long hours at home to develop positive mood and spirit lifting processes for her staff and residents. Karla is also a community leader. She is a member of the local Chamber of Commerce and she is a local recognizable figure. I would recommend Karla for an award every day if I could.

"Bob" works at a local grocery store in the meat, fruit and pastry departments. Faithfully keeping those departments stocked for the local customers. He was hired part-time originally. Since January he has worked no less than 40 hours a week, and as April, he works 7 days every week (56 hours a week!). He does this so that local people in Port Angeles can keep Walmart open for all their shopping needs. Did I mention that he is: 68 years old, has diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol? He has never called in sick! He is very reliable and friendly to all. He is considered high risk for the COVID-19 Virus. He feels he must keep working for the people of Port Angeles. He takes all the precautions to ensure he is safe around others and he is protected too. He is my personal hero!
