My daughter Crystal works as a Registered Nurse and puts her life on the line every single day. After a 12 hour shift, she goes home to her husband and two little daughters. On top of that, she just went on medical leave this past Wednesday April 28, 2020 to deliver her 3th child this coming Friday May 1st. Her and the unborn baby are under a lot of stress. So yes she is a true Hero serving our Country/Community. Thank you to all of our doctors, nurses and our First Responders may God Bless them all for everything they do.

Irene, a NICU nurse at the children's hospital, is my wife of almost 16 years now and counting and a loving mother to our 2 boys. She has always been our hero, especially during these tough days. She always works hard and loves and cares about her patients. She loves her job because for her, it's not a job but it's an advocation and her calling to help children, specially babies, during their recovery at the best children's hospital in South Texas. However tired or afraid she is because of this pandemic that is wrecking everybody's hearts, her determination and love for children never seize to amaze me. She still goes to work to take care of her little angels, and when she comes home, still has the energy to enlighten our home. Truly, she's our HERO MOMMY!

I would like to nominate Felipe, who we like to call our Daddy. He is a delivery driver and has been non-stop delivering essentials to our community. As the world came to a halt, these men and women keep it going. We thank him and all his co-workers. Love your wife and 3 kiddos!

Marcela has been a nurse for 10 yrs. She is a frontline nurse at a hospital. She is witnessing first-hand the effects of the virus and still willing to work in that environment and take care of patients. She is having to do way more tasks now than before. I can see the stress past her smile and I can hear the stress past her laughter. Even though she tries so hard not to pass the stress on it is still noticeable. She is my sister....my hero.

Tatu and Emilie own a coffee shop and are delivering grocers to the elderly who can't leave their house. My mom is 60 and had stroke a few years ago so she can't really cook for herself or get to the store. They offered to deliver meals to the elderly so I got my mom's name on the list. Then in talking to some of the people they delivered to, they realized a pack of food for the week would be better, so they deliver 1 or 2 packs a week, some rice and beans, fruit, soup, oatmeal. They started a go fund me page and ask for drivers. I've donated when I can and to help my mom, I'll pick up her items and cook them for her. But they are always posting videos on their page and they are just very caring couple. That is why I feel they should be nominated Local Heroes.

My daughter Kristen, is an ER Nurse fighting this COVID pandemic as a frontline worker. She have been working long grueling hours while caring for those who have either been exposed or currently have COVID. She has also had to adjust to having her oldest daughter do schooling online while also caring for her newborn daughter. Kristen is a hero because she's helping those who are ill while also dealing with a nationwide shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE). My daughter deserves this because she's putting her health at risk to care for those who desperately need help.

I would like to nominate my daughter Janie. She works as a dental assistant for a healthcare facility. The office is not seeing dental patients at this time so she and other staff have been screening medical patients as they come to their medical appointments. We've always been close and would sit and talk everyday. I'm a double amputee and my daughter has always been a true hero in my corner. However during this time and due to me being at risk, she does not come to my room as often anymore to help keep me from getting sick. I know this may seem like something small but I'm thankful for all that she does not only for our family but for others as well.

My father Julio is the definition of a hero. As the child of a police officer, I get to watch how he proudly walks out into our community to protect and serve its citizens. I have waved good-bye as we leave to escape a hurricane and he stays behind to protect our community. I have played nurse to his broken finger after a suspect assaulted him and he had to fight him. I vividly remember how he was emotionally affected after a victim of his domestic violence case was shot and killed by her husband. I watch him in every restaurant, store or place we walk into with his eyes peeled, facing the door, gun in reach in the event he needed to keep me and the other customers safe. Just last month, I watched him bolt across restaurant tables during a family celebration and immediately launch into CPR for a 3 year old little girl who had stopped breathing. I've watched as he pulls over to the side of the road to help people when we were on our way somewhere. I've seen the pride in his voice when he solves a homicide case, helps get an abuser put in jail, or a thief off the streets. I've seen the sadness in his eyes when he talks about serving as honor guard for the memorial services of slain Texas officers. But I have never seen my father take for granted the opportunity he has had to make a difference in his community. I have watched him proudly put on that uniform countless times . Have I mentioned that he also serves our country? He was in the US Army and is currently an Air Force Reservist with a total of over 24 years serving our country. He has had multiple tours that included Iraq and Afghanistan in the midst of war. He is the definition of a hero day in and day out.

Heather is the child nutrition director for our school district and has worked everyday during the nation's shut down to provide meals to the kids in the area. She even worked 2 weeks by herself when she needed to send her crew home for safety. She uses her own money to apply to kids accounts that go negative to make sure they get a full meal each and every day. She's the first one into work and the last one to leave.
