From the day the pandemic began to the day I am writing this, Dannette has not stopped her pursuit to care for others. Dannette is a nurse who has gone to work without regard for her own safety because she knows that her calling is to care for those who cannot care for themselves.

My grandma Carol is 77 and she has made over 200 masks for people in her community and her families communities. She is one of the best people I know and she does all she can for others while knowing she's seriously at risk.

Abby has worked hard to care for others as a Registered Nurse. She then comes home and cares of her family which consists of her husband, two school-age children, and twin girls who are one year old. She has taken efforts to educate the public by appearing on our local radio station to talk about the importance of handwashing, how to be safe in public, and what you should do if you are feeling various symptoms. She herself began to feel ill, and underwent a Covid test. She quarantined away from her family for two days waiting results, but thankfully tested negative.

Ben is a curbside grocery attendant at our local H-E-B. He has faced demanding hours and customers as people sought to hoard items during this pandemic. He has been working tirelessly to provide customers with as many items they need as possible, this has meant more time away from his 4 -year-old son. Ben has managed to keep up a professional positive attitude and his interactions with the customers, helping them to feel more at ease about the situation going on in our world today.

Joanne is a single mom and an RN. She requested a leave of absence from her job to help in New York. Her job said she had to quit. So she did! She quit her job to assist with the Covid-19 crisis in New York. She has lived in Texas for over 13 years and now is in Flushing, NY. On her day off, she homeschools her son and plays with him in the backyard. She has an amazing heart and care for her patients--no matter where they are in the nation. I am proud of her sacrifice and call-to-duty spirit.

Gary is a full-time volunteer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He serves as a volunteer coordinator within the Chaplain's offices. Gary's impact with this vulnerable (and potentially forgotten) segment of our society, those incarcerated in our local, state, and federal prisons, is immense. Through his selfless service he has transformed lives and brought hope to countless individuals who were lost and on a path of self-destruction. Gary has worked within the Texas Criminal Justice system for nearly 23 years. He coordinates worship activities and retreats in the units. He also provides education and self-development programs that expand individual's awareness of their human value and their faith in a better reality outside the walls of prison. Gary is a hero because he gives 100% of himself to others who are in great need. He asks for nothing in return.

My mom Beatrice has been working so hard with the elderly in a nursing home. She has said she has to wear a mask cover daily and it has been hard for her and all the patients she helps during this pandemic. They can't see their families, she has to comfort them, be there take care of them, and keep herself safe. I applaud her. Thank you for all you do.
