Stonepeak Announces Agreement to Acquire Astound Broadband from TPG for $8.1 Billion

Represents the largest private equity acquisition in the U.S. in 2020 and the largest cable transaction in the past five years

Princeton, N.J. – November 1, 2020 – Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners (Stonepeak), a private equity firm specializing in infrastructure investing, today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Astound Broadband (Astound), the sixth largest U.S. cable operator in the United States that operates leading regional providers RCN, Grande, Wave and enTouch. Stonepeak will acquire the company from TPG Capital and Patriot Media Management for $8.1 billion. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2021 and is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.

Stonepeak is partnering with Patriot Media, the industry-leading management team headed by Steve Simmons and Jim Holanda that currently manages Astound. Wave Broadband, RCN and Grande Communications Commit $100K to Support Feeding America®

SEATTLE, WA – May 21, 2020Wave Broadband, a leading provider of fiber and broadband services, with its family of companies including RCN and Grande, will pledge $100,000 total to Feeding America® to support local food banks in their service areas. Additionally, Wave will be running Feeding America’s advertisements on its cable network free of charge to help raise awareness and further support fundraising.

This pledge from Wave, RCN and Grande is intended to help the communities within each of their respective service areas and to bring awareness to the food shortages they are faced with today. Through this initiative, customers can also join in donating directly to Feeding America®.

Wave Broadband Extends COVID-19 Response Policies to June 30

 

SEATTLE, WA – May 4, 2020–Wave Broadband, a leading provider of fiber and broadband services, announced it will extend its commitments through June 30 to ensure business and residential customers remain connected to the internet during the COVID-19 crisis.

Originally announced on April 6, the company made the following commitments that will now be extended through June 30, 2020:

  • Wave Broadband is offering free internet and WiFi for 60 days to all qualifying low-income households, especially students in low income households who do not already subscribe to the company’s internet service and who enroll in the Internet First program.
    • The Internet First program is affordable internet designed to help families and students in low-income households to have reliable access to the internet. It will enable them to home school, do homework, and access educational resources and more. Wave Broadband is partnering with school districts to ensure local communities are aware of the program’s extension and the tools to help students learn remotely.
    • The Internet First program includes 25Mbps high-speed internet service at $9.95 per month and is available to all eligible new residential customers who do not currently have Wave Broadband Installation fees will be waived for eligible students and new customers.

  • Wave Broadband will not terminate service to any residential or business customer because of their inability to pay their bills due to disruptions caused by COVID-19. Customers can reach out to make special arrangements to keep services active.
  • Wave Broadband will waive any late fees that any residential or small business customer might normally incur because of their economic circumstance related to COVID-19.
  • While many Wave customers already have unlimited home internet access, Wave Broadband will waive internet data overage fees for March, April, May and June. Customers that incur data overages during these months will see charges and corresponding credit on their bills during April, May, June, and July.

Wave continues to see excellent performance of their network with engineers, field technicians, and operations centers on point 24/7 to meet shifts in usage patterns and increased traffic.  While many are still working, learning and connecting from home, the company remains vigilant in monitoring all network and support systems to ensure customers receive the fastest and most reliable connections and service.
