I am nominating my local hero because she is a special education teacher. She is a mother of 2 little children under the age of 5. She sacrifices a lot to make sure her coworkers and students are able to be successful. She is selfless and is busy almost every hour of the day and even works into the night and on weekends to make sure things get done right. She doesn't do the work for the accolades but rather because she is a teacher at heart and truly cares for the under privileged students we serve. She has overcome losing her home due to hurricane Harvey and her mother's terminal illness and still smiles everyday.

Paul was struck by a vehicle. He was responding to reports of debris on the highway. Now Paul is doing better, but he is still recovering. His family and community have rallied around him in support. A recent plate sale was set up to raise funds for him and his family. 500 plates sold out practically in minutes. That tells me a lot about his value to the community. On 11/18/2019, my daughter and I were in a motorcycle accident and Paul was the responding officer on the scene. We didn't get to meet him, because we were rushed to the hospital. While we were there, the driver who hit us gave false statements and almost got away with her careless driving. As I tried to prove my case to her insurance company, Paul was my contact and he helped me collect the evidence I needed and prove I was not at fault. If it had not been for him guiding me through the process, it would have been a lot harder to prove my case. Those around Paul have been courageous during his recovery and I wish them all the best.

Angel is a hard worker at a gas station, where she makes minimum wage. The store she works at fails to provide basic sanitizing products, so she is forced to bring them from home. She constantly has to deal with rude customers, immature coworkers, and long hours without breaks. She is risking her safety for a fraction of the pay that other "essential workers" are making. Angel is truly a Local Hero.

This is my Mother, Leomie. She has been a Certified Nurse Aide for more than 24 years. She raised me and my other 4 family members as a single mother. I Admire my mother because even being left to raise 5 children, she loves being a caregiver to those in need. She never complains; she sometimes brings her work home, talking about how Blessed she is to care for those in need. Never ever being selfish, she is just doing what God called her to do... She has been working through this Virus the whole time, continuing to get new clients, trying to make sure everyone's ok.😔😔🙏SHE IS MY MOTHER, THE LOVE OF MY WORLD AND A GIVER OF HER LIFE SO OTHERS MAY BE WELL.
